NAUTA architecture & research produces architecture, urban design and critical thinking.
Founded in 2007 by Maurizio Scarciglia, the studio works to build a global network of partners and consultants. To date, the NAUTA team has brought together people from more than ten nationalities and countries of practice, with collaborations across Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America.
NAUTA studies human behaviour in order to produce responsible design.
Since its foundation, NAUTA has pursued the mission of promoting responsible design in every form and at every scale. Through participation in international competitions, private commissions and self-initiated projects, NAUTA is committed to continuously raising awareness of the need to replace subjectivity in design with a new, more analytical approach.
NAUTA works to optimise resources, enhance what already exists, and pursue beauty and innovation without crossing into the realm of the superfluous.
NAUTA is a Latin word meaning “navigator”. The name of the studio reflects its mission to navigate contemporary global realities in search of new themes that can enrich the interests and experience of the team, with the aim of improving the quality of the built environment.
NAUTA’s commitment to sustainable development has stimulated debate and action among municipalities and public and private organisations, encouraging them to pursue new sustainable approaches to planning our cities and improving our future.
